Investigating ideas around automatism - a concept in law, medicine and art - the artist presents experiments with automatic and involuntary drawing: techniques which require the negation of the artist’s intent and control in the process of production. Surrealists believed artists could in this way act as a medium or conduit for ideas and messages that originate ‘elsewhere’ and access elements of their own, hidden psyche. These investigations were made in response to Lydia Belevich’s research on film, psychology and technology in relation to the “unknown”.
